When you are in a new place, enjoy the sights and sounds. Music comes to mind while away on a trip. If you like jazz, find out where you can listen to jazz music in the city. Better yet, plan to visit when the jazz festival is taking place. If you prefer blues, find out where there is a blues bar. If you enjoy other types of celebrations and events, look for things to do that revolve around these fun times. If you like the festivities connected to the Mardi Gras, plan your time away for the month of February.
Spend time browsing the architecture in the city that you visit. If you go to a place where there is plenty of European-style architecture, you will be in for a treat! Do not rush from one spot to another, but give yourself time to take in all of the sights. If you get thirsty, stop somewhere for a warm drink or cool refreshment (whichever you prefer).
You may be tempted to keep busy every moment when you are on vacation. There is something to be said for taking a break though. You took time off so you could take it easy after all, now didn't you? Plan for rest and relaxation when you are away from your home and your day-to-day life.
